Many people's perception of China comes from TV news and the internet and as we all know you can't really believe all you see and hear in the media.

For most of the people who actually visit China their perception generally comes from gazing through the windows of a tour bus or the lens of a camera, while being herded around a few famous sites such as The Great Wall and The Terracotta Warriors.

This might be interesting for some but may not offer much of a cultural experience. Indeed there's a saying:

"Tourists don't know where they've been. Travellers don't know where they're going"

Tales of the Orient is not a tour agency or your typical travel organisation. We are experience facilitators. We focus on travellers like yourself.  It is your life and your adventure. We simply open the doors for you to experience Chinese culture .....on your own terms......but with our support 24/7. We are a small team of foreigners and locals who will aid you with the type of services  that allows you the freedom and gives you the confidence to enjoy and pursue your own interests and pleasures during your trip to China.

Do you enjoy walking in the countryside or through villages or cities, just taking in the sights, sounds and smells of an environment? Do you enjoy eating unusual, delicious and interesting exotic food? Would you like to practice Tai Chi before breakfast each day? How about pleasure (and the pain?) of a variety of oriental massages?

How would you feel sitting down to dinner in a local family's home or to experience the joy of teaching English one afternoon at a local school or playing with the kids in a local orphanage? Can you imagine staying the night in a 1000 year old Buddhist temple or relaxing in a hot spring in the middle of China? Or having a personal health check by an experienced practioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine? These are just some of the opportunities, most of which are included in our costs, that await you at our getaways.........and we do mean getaways. You can also let us know in advance if you have particular interests or ideas of what you might like to do in China and we will do what we can to help you experience them.

We are also seriously concerned about the impact that lots of westerners wandering around would have on the areas around our Getaways. So for environmental reasons, Tales of the Orient Getaways are EXCLUSIVE and openings are limited to a few times a year and to between ten and twenty guests each time. If you join our Getaways you won't be a tourist, you'll be somebody passing through and experiencing the culture of a tiny part of a historic country. Very little will change except you.
